MUSIC

At Clyst Heath we believe music is the universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. Our music curriculum aims to engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.

As well as growing as a musician, opportunities to compose and perform will encourage an expressive and creative impulse in children. We believe that all children should be given opportunities to participate in whole school and community activities, to perform, to share their own musical tastes and appreciate a variety of music from different cultures.

Children gain a firm understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing, evaluating and composing across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, traditions, and musical genres. We are committed to ensuring children understand the value and importance of music to their own and others’ lives and wellbeing and also the impact music has in the wider community.

The National Curriculum for music aims to ensure that all children:

·                    perform, listen to, review and evaluate music

·                    be taught to sing, create and compose music

·                    understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated

    Weekly Music Assemblies

Virtual music assemblies are led by Miss Campbell. The children have been learning ‘sign-to-sing’ songs, as an alternative to whole class singing in line with current guidelines. Each week, there is a musical focus that links in with the national curriculum.

This half term, the children have been discovering how instruments are an important part of culture in countries all over the world.
