Geography

at Clyst Heath Nursery and Community Primary School

Intent

Geography at Clyst Heath will inspire in pupils a life-long curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. Our teaching should establish a firm sense of place within the city of Exeter, and beyond. We intend to equip pupils with a knowledge, understanding and appreciation for diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments in an ever-changing world. We should provide opportunities for geographical skills to be developed.

We endeavour to cultivate a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes, and begin to formulate an understanding of our human impact both locally and globally.

Implementation

We aim for all pupils to:

  • Have a deep understanding of location and place.
  • Compare globally significant places.
  • Identify and explain key human and physical processes using appropriate vocabulary.
  • Develop competence in geographical skills, specifically fieldwork and observational skills of key human and physical features.

Impact

  • To prove a clear geographical curriculum in line with the National Curriculum 2014 objectives, planned as a sequence of lessons to inspire, to improve and to innovate.
  • To inspire confident and independent geographers with the skills and desire to find out more about the world and the people within it.
  • To provide key geographical concepts and develop good subject knowledge of geography.
